Notes
I started this vid a year ago, and half way through the vid, this song became such a huge hit that hearing it made me sick. I usually try to vid not so famous songs for that reason. But since Edward Scissohands is probably my favourite movie ever, and that scene in the snow probably emcompass everything I feel about the beauty of life. So I had to finish it at one point. But that's why it took so long.
I don't even know how I feel about this vid anymore because I just can't see it really. not that you care. but I hope it's still enjoyable.

This was still fun to do just because my god, the source is so static. and doing this after vidding Heroes and BSG, that's quite a change. But it was fun to do for that reason too.

Otherwise, this is just a vid where the song does it all, it's so perfect for Edward IMO, it's just so sad and beautiful how this character came to the world with so much love only to be rejected. and in the end, all that's left is the beauty of his spirit and how it remains intact. I found this so poetic and beautiful.

Ooh, how fun! It was just so light and sweet I couldn't help but smile. :D I've never seen the movie but you definitely sold me on the song being a perfect fit. It's got this unique quirkyness to it that seems to fit the source material quite well, and your cutting throughout did a lot to enhance that.

You found it fun to vid a static source after vidding stuff like Heroes and BSG? haha, I have to say, we definitely differ when it comes to that. But really, you did a fantastic job of working with the source. The vid never felt static at all; on the contrary it felt quite fluid and dynamic. Again, I think your pacing, use of jump cuts, and frequent intercutting played a big role in that.

0:09 - Hee, I love the triple split screen
0:13 - Great use of the zoom over that slight rise in vocals
0:30 - haha, for some reason this image of him in the pillowcase/sheet/whatever makes me laugh. Putting it over the "lalalala" was just perfect.
0:53 - Aww, by now you've really started to make me feel for those two. Even though I don't know the girl's name. :P
1:30 - This scene of the girl in the snow created by Edward is really pretty. I like how you intercut it with their hug. It makes it extra sweet. :)
1:43 - Really like the frequent changes in camera angle on what's essentially the same shot
2:17 - It's really poignant to return to this shot at the end, especially over the chorale vocals. It makes her seem positively angelic.

Definitely a bittersweet ending, which I'm guessing holds true for the movie as well? Whatever the case, I thought this was great. It's quirky but still very distinctly you. Great work!

Did I say "fun" ? I meant horrible and incredibly frustrating ;) But it's just me seeing the silver lining here, learning to make it flow differently was quite interesting. :)

Definitely. it basically follows the movie's narrative and it's definitely a bitter(sweet) ending.

It's the most perfect vid for this movie ever!!! OMG! The pace, the musicality, and the way the tone of the song so perfectly carries the vid... it's wonderful. Fantastic work.

This is cute and light, but when you really look into it, it's got a deeper meaning and is actually quite sad and heart breaking. Just like the movie. I'd say you summarized it well!

hee! This is so sweet and fluffy I can't stop grinning, even if the inevitable bittersweet ending breaks my heart just a little. It's funny, and quirky and just a little sad = simply Edward.
Also, you completely unstatic-ed the source with your editing, especially the jump cuts and intercutting; the vid flows without a hitch and positively dances to the song. And you've used the dancing in the snow scene in the most perfect way ever.

Oh, WOW! I haven't seen this movie in ages, but you are so right about how perfect this song is, how it completely fits Edward's beauty of spirit and innocence! Your vid brought it all back for me. I adore how you used the ice sculpture scene...I didn't read your notes until after watching, but I could tell how much you loved it by how beautifully you incorporated it with the music.

It's just lovely and it feels like you.

Its been ages since Ive seen Edward Scissorhand & from what I remember, you captured the spirit of it beautifully. Funny, yet touching & just a little dark. Loved it - the editing, the flow...its all tops!

Man, just like the movie: happy-go-lucky PAIN.

I love the cutting here, so brisk and cheerful. It feels very different from your other vids, but every bit as moving.

That was extraordinarily lovely, emotive, and really got to the heart of the character and the film. Editing was wonderful and you vidded the footage to the song beautifully. I will have to hunker down and study this one, for sure, because it's definitely the kind of vid that needs to be watched a number of times to really appreciate all the nuances and catch everything. :DDD

This is great! You really brought out the melancholy in this superfically cute song. I totally relived both the wonder and the heartbreak of the movie while watching this--you've completely captured its sensibility.

Oh MY!, this couldn't be more perfect! I'm so glad you went back to finish this, for it's a gem. The song was destined to be married to Edward's story and your beautiful, beautiful editing. Your love of the film sails upon every frame, and I can't help but come away with a bit of Edward's beautiful spirit tucked inside me. I too fell in love with your editing of the ice sculpture scene....absolutely gorgeous. This vid is a treasure, so extraordinarily lovely..one I will be watching again and again. :)

This is so delightfully whimsical and fun! The feel of the vid actually reminds me a lot of Pushing Daisies for some reason. I think it's the tuba and the bouncy feel of the song combined with your style of editing.

Very clever musicality all through.

Love the up-down at :06

The pacing of the opening verse is just FLAWLESS. Especially the "hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take" part.

:34 - SPARKS!

1:36 - Love how the motion of the actor mirrors the woodwinds there. So beautiful.

2:02 - Serious moment, but your musicality makes me laugh there every time.

I always felt like Edward Scissorhands was a movie I should have liked more than I did. I saw it when it came out, and at the time I was a big fan of the actors, the director, the concept... but I just never really got into the movie. This vid is different - it's what I *wanted* the movie to be.

I always felt like Edward Scissorhands was a movie I should have liked more than I did.
You know, it kinda had this effect on me after I rewatched it years after. I was like "oh... I remembered loving this way more". Maybe it just got old. But the spirit of the movie is so pure and beautiful and sad, and that, I will not forget.

There's a great feeling of sweetness in the song that is present in your vid. As a child I remember this being one of the first times I was deeply saddened by a movie. I can't remember how young I was, but I was genuinely upset by the end of the movie. I kept asking my family why it ended that way. Your vid really circles the movie and brings the sadness and sweetness out in a lot of ways. There's also a balance and progression

I like your quirky editing bits with the motion, especially in the beginning when it's more cute than creepy. Like the assembly line, cutting, face dabbing, paper doll opening and foot movement. The :50s section plays very well with their still faces. The motion is really great. The pacing slow down is beautifully done as well. Your use of the ice shaving scene is nice as it starts to intercut with the harsher scenes. The editing from 2:00 on is freaking awesome, especially as he cuts off his clothes and the people run.

The movie was released in 1991 and I pesonnaly was 10, and It had the same effect on me. It was fairytale and sadness at the same time. Probably why I remember it so much.
